Client Intake

Easily fill out and submit the secure Client Intake Form from any desktop computer or mobile device (or with help over the phone).

Provide Instructions

Schedule a virtual, telephone or in-person meeting with Taylor to thoroughly discuss your estate planning needs

 

Step 3

Sign Documents

Once satisfied, you will sign your legal documents in front of Taylor and 1 witness, either remotely or in person, your choice.**

Step 4

Storing Documents

DEVEAU LAW retains an electronic copy of your estate planning documents. You take your original documents home with instructions for safe-keeping and updating in the future.

Last Will and Testament (Will)

\ wəl, (ə)l, ᵊl, ˈwil \ noun

A legal declaration of a person's wishes regarding the disposal of his or her property or estate after death.

Power of Attorney

A legal instrument authorizing another to act as your “attorney” or agent with respect to finances and/or personal care.

Certificate of Appointment

The legal process whereby the executor or next-of-kin of the deceased person makes an application to the Ontario Court (formerly known as probate).

Executor

ex·​ec·​u·​tor | \ ig-ˈze-k(y)ə-tər noun

The individual appointed by the testator (person making the Will) to administer their estate, as set out in their Will.

Beneficiary

ben·​e·​fi·​cia·​ry | \ ˌbe-nə-ˈfi-shē-ˌer-ē noun

The person designated to receive the income of an estate, life insurance policy, registered investment or other instrument that is subject to a trust (for example, under a Will).

Testate

tes·​tate | \ ˈte-ˌstāt adjective

Passed away having left a valid Will (one is intestate if he or she passes leaving no valid Will).

Henson Trust

A discretionary trust that is designed to protect and benefit beneficiaries with special needs and to protect their right to receive income support benefits.

Executor’s Compensation

Money paid from the estate to the executor(s) for his or her work in administering the deceased person’s estate. Executor’s compensation is considered taxable income for the executor.
